Epiphyseal Disk

Band of cartilage between the epiphyses and diaphysis that expands, allowing for growth; as cartilage expands it is ossified; zone of growth in an endochondral bone. In a vertebra the epiphyseal disks are between the vertebral body and the superior and inferior surfaces. Aka epiphyseal plate, metaphysis, growth plate region.
