Evolutionary Arms Race

Condition in which an adaptation in one species (such as a parasite, or a predator) reduces the fitness of individuals in a second species (such as a host, or a prey), thereby selecting in favor of counter-adaptations in the second species; these counter-adaptations, in turn, select in favor of new adaptations in the first species, and so on.
