Extreme Sexual Dimorphism Hypothesis

Phrase sometimes used when alluding to the range of size variation for the fossils attributed by Johanson and T. White to the taxon Australopithecus afarensis. According to their sample, this hominid species contains males and females with a greater degree of sexual dimorphism than the gorilla, which has the largest of any extant primate.
