Fourteen bones that form the shape of the face, provide sites for muscle attachments, and articulate with the cranium. These bones include the paired maxillary, palatine, zygomatic, lacrimal, nasal, and inferior nasal conchae bones, and the single vomer and mandible. Aka splanchnocranium, viscerocranium.
