Follicle Stimulating Hormone (FSH)

One of the gonadotropic hormones secreted by the anterior pituitary gland; in females it regulates follicular development (Graafian follicles) in the ovary and stimulates the secretion of estrogen, and promotes the endometrial changes characteristic of the proliferative phase of the mammalian menstrual cycle; in males it stimulates Sertoli cells to produce androgen-binding protein, and stimulates progesterone secretion and the production of sperm cells.
