Genetic Recombination

Any of several mechanisms that shuffle the order or combinations of genes between generations. Typically, the placement of allele copies into linked genotypes (on chromatids or within gametes) that are different from the linkage combinations they belonged to in a previous generation; most commonly results from crossing over during meiosis and sexual reproduction with outcrossing.
