Genetic Variance

That proportion of the total phenotypic variance of a quantitative character explained by genetic factors that members of a population have in common; a property of a population, not of individuals or of any particular individual. Genetic variance may be subdivided into several components: additive genetic variance (Vga); dominance genetic variance (Vgd); epistatic genetic variance (Vge); and interactive genetic variance (Vgi).
