Glacial Maximum

Portion of geologic time in which the total area of the earth’s surface covered by glaciers greatly exceeded that of the present; during a glacial maximum up to one-third of the earth was covered by ice and the levels of the earth’s oceans was 100 m lower than the present sea level. Plural: glacial maxima. Aka glacial period.
