Glucagon

Peptide hormone secreted by the alpha cells of the islets of Langerhans in the pancreas in response to either hypoglycemia and/or stimulation by acetylcholine, by some amino acids, or by growth hormone; leads to a rise in plasma glucose by stimulation of glycogenolysis in the liver, and stimulates the release of insulin by the pancreatic islets.
