Glycoprotein

Any membrane-bound protein bonded to saccharide (sugar) molecules; conjugated protein. The sugars usually constitute less than 4% of the molecule. Glycoproteins function in cell recognition systems such as those of the human blood groups and immune system response(s). Examples are the mucins and chondroproteins.
