Groundwater

Water contained in the void space within rocks, and usually taken to mean rainwater or other surface sources (meteoric water), water formed in magma (juvenile water), or old water trapped during original sedimentation (connate water). Groundwater may contain elements in solution (1, 2) with the potential to contribute to permineralization and diagenesis.
