Human Growth Hormone Gene Family

Humans, like all other primates, possess five endoreduplicated growth hormone genes. In humans, these genes map to HSA 17q21; the 5 -3 order of the genes is GH1CSHP1-CHS1-GH2-CSH2. GH1 codes for pituitary hGH; GH2 is a pseudogene, and the others are expressed in the placenta. GSH1 and GSH2 code for hCS; CSHP1 codes for an hCS variant. All are structurally similar.
