Theory that every gland and tissue releases products that can have effects on other glands and tissues. Although proposed long before the isolation of specific hormones and specifically critical of the elan vital and other mystical products, the 1742 model of Théophile de Bordeau (1722-76) nevertheless used the term humors for these proposed products.
