Hypertrophic, Trait, Character Or Feature

Preexisting trait that is extremely developed. The enlargement of the elephant’s tusk, for example, occurred because of the enlargement and change in shape of a tooth that originally (in the fossil record) had an ordinary form; the molarization of premolars in the megadont robust australopithecines, and the crenulation of their grinding surfaces, may be another example.
