Iliac Pillar

Thickening of the bone on the ilium of hominids that runs from the iliac crest to the acetabulum; this structure serves as a site of attachment for some of the gluteal muscles and helps resist forces generated by pelvic abductor muscles during bipedal walking; strongly developed in Homo.
