Internal Carotid (artery)

Main division of the common carotid artery that enters the cranium through the carotid canal of the temporal bone. The internal carotid artery distributes blood to the orbits and about 80% of the cerebrum. After entering the cranium each internal carotid gives rise to three branches: the ophthalmic, anterior cerebral, and middle cerebral arteries.
