Ischemic Phase

Fourth phase of the human uterine cycle, encompassing days 27-28, and characterized by relatively low concentrations of the hormones LH and FSH and lowering of estrogens and progesterone. The blood supply is diminished and the influence of hormones is minimized, causing a marked shrinking of the endometrium, followed by ischemic necrosis of the superficial tissues, which eventually detach and pass into the uterine cavity.
