Calorie used in metabolic and nutritional studies as a measure of energyproducing value of various foods. In SI units, 4.184 joules; the amount of energy required to raise one kilogram of water from 14.5 to 15.5 C at a pressure of one atmosphere. Aka large calorie, Calorie.
