Lacerate Foramina

Term used in mammalian anatomy and paleontology for three separate apertures that can be seen from an inferior view of the cranium and transmit nerves and blood vessels. In human anatomy the posterior lacerate foramen is called the superior orbital fissure, the middle one is the foramen lacerum, and the posterior one is called the jugular foramen. The relative size of the middle lacerate foramen is related to brain size.
