Lateral Incisor

Incisor that is farthest from the midsagittal line of the incisors in a set. lateral pterygoid: muscle of chewing. The lateral pterygoid originates from the lateral pterygoid plate of the sphenoid bone; it inserts into the medial surface of the mandible. Its action is to depress and protrude the mandible and move it from side to side when performing grinding movements.
