Male Mate Choice

Concept that males prefer to mate with females whom they assess as being fecund and will reject copulations with those females who may not be ovulating; despite the idea that sperm is cheap, some proponents of this concept think that unfruitful copulations deplete a male’s supply of sperm and decrease the likelihood of producing more offspring.

Cf. female mate choice.
