Reduction division; process of cell division that leads to the formation of sex cells (gametes); aka meiotic cycle. A diploid stem cell divides twice but the chromatids have only replicated once, so that the four end products are haploid (i.e. have only a single complement of chromatids each). Aka maturation division, gametogenesis.
