Melanocyte-stimulating Hormone

Peptide hormone secreted by the intermediate lobe of the pituitary gland; it stimulates the production of pigmentation (melanin) within the melanocytes of the skin of birds and mammals, and can produce a rapid change in skin coloration in some nonhuman species.
