Menopause

Cessation of the menstrual cycle in females, identified in retrospect after 12 months of amenorrhea, and signaling the cessation of ovulation and fertility. One of the life history variables; in humans, a universal parameter that usually occurs between the ages of 46 and 50, and marks a period of increasing bone los and changing serum lipid profiles. Aka climacteric.
