Minisatellite DNA

DNA consisting of a variable number of repeats of a characteristic short sequence of 30-60 base pairs; minisatellites are possible examples of selfish DNA. Minisatellites have mutation rates as high as 10-2 per generation as they arise in high frequency, possibly by unequal crossing over, in eukaryotic genomes.
