Mitosis

Duplication division; process of somatic cell division in which a body cell replicates, forming two identical daughter cells or genetic copies of the parent cell, each with an identical diploid set of chromatids. Adjective: mitotic. In mitosis, five main stages occur: interphase, prophase, metaphase, anaphase, and telophase; in meiosis (cf.), additional stages occur. Aka karyokinesis.
