Monogamy

Mating system in which one male is paired up with one female during the breeding season, often longer. Monogamy is almost always associated with parental care by both parents. It exists among titi monkeys (Callicebus) and the hylobatids. It has long been described for many callitrichids, but some workers now question whether this is true in all cases. Aka monandry.

Cf. polygamy.
