Monotreme

Member of the order Monotremata belonging to the mammalian monotypic subclass Prototheria; the most primitive living mammal, characterized by reptile-like limb placement and oviparity. The egg-laying mammals include the duck-billed platypus and the spiny anteater or echidna of Australia.
