Negative Assortative Mating

Less common type of nonrandom mating in which individuals of differing phenotypes mate more often than expected when compared with a theoretical standard called random mating. NAM results in an increase in the proportion of heterozygotes in a population. Aka dissortative mating, heterophenogamy.
