Paradoxical Sleep

Resting state in which an elecroencephalogram depicts brain waves that resemble the arousal state, yet it is during this state that the sleeper is most difficult to awaken. During paradoxical sleep the eyes move rapidly under the eyelids, dreams occur, and males experience penile erection although muscles are inhibited. Aka REM sleep.

See sleeping behavior.
