Peroxisome Proliferator-activated Receptor-gamma

A protein that governs the maturation and function of fat cells. Humans are polymorphic for PPAR-; one allele has alanine but a second and more common allele has proline at a specific amino acid sequence site. The proline-encoding PPAR- has been linked to an increased susceptibility to non-insulindependent diabetes mellitus.
