Pivot Joint

Type of synovial joint in which a projection from one bone rotates within a ring of bone and connective tissue of a second bone; movement is restricted to rotation around the central axis; an example is the atlantoaxial joint formed by the first two cervical vertebrae. Aka trochoidal joint.
