Point Mutation

Rare, unpredictable, and permanent change that results in a small, localized alteration to the chemical structure of DNA, especially a gene; usually the change in the quantity or quality of a nucleotide sequence in DNA. One of the mechanisms or forces of evolution, and the ultimate source of all new genetic variation. Aka micromutation.
