Polarity

1. the direction or trend of features in a system.

2. the direction of a morphocline from primitive to derived, i.e. in phylogenetic systematics, the plesiomorphic or apomorphic status of a trait.

3. the direction of magnetism with respect to the poles, considered normal if it matches the earth’s current magnetic field, and reversed if in the opposite direction.
