Postorbital Closure

Condition in which the posterior portion of the orbit is closed off by a wall of bone called the postorbital plate; this gives the orbit a cuplike appearance. This condition, unusual among other mammals, is found among the primate anthropoids and tarsier; its function is unknown. Also referred to as closed orbits.
