Respiratory Diaphragm

Sheetlike skeletal muscle that separates the thoracic cavity from the lower abdominal cavity. When this muscle contracts it creates negative pressure, resulting in a flow of air into the respiratory passages. This structure is only found among mammals, although some workers report a membranous respiratory diaphragm in birds. Aka muscular diaphragm.
