Serine Protease

Any of a number of homologous enzymes that have the same activity mechanism and that include serine in their active sites. Examples are enzymes for blood coagulation (thrombin), blood clot dissolution (plasmin), complement fixation (CI protease), digestion (chymotrypsin, elastase, trypsin), fertilization (acrosomal enzymes), and pain sensing (kallikrein).
