3. biological category based upon reproductive attributes and roles in sexually reproducing species; term often replaced by gender under certain circumstances. Outcome is dependent upon the circumstances of, and interactions among, factors that contribute to genetic sex, chromosomal sex, phenotypic sex, and psychosocial sex.
