Silent Mutation

Base substitution in DNA that is transcribed into mRNA and results in a new codon, but translates into the same amino acid in a polypeptide chain due to the redundancy or degeneracy of the genetic code; may be either a transition or a transversion, and generally affects the third position in a codon. Aka same-sense mutation.
