Simotic Index

An index of facial flatness used primarily by Russian anthropologists: simotic subtense multiplied by 100 and divided by simotic chord. The simotic subtense is the point on the nasal suture that is between and in front of the nasal bones. The simotic chord is the minimum horizontal breadth of the two nasal bones. This index reflects the arch of the nasal bones at their root.

See frontal index, premaxillary index, rhinial index.
