Spearthrower

Device present in Magdalenian Upper Paleolithic and later tool kits designed to enhance the power and distance of a hurled spear; developed by the Cro-Magnons and providing the user with the equivalent of an extra segment on the throwing arm. Made of bone, antler or wood, it consists of a grip at one end and a hook or notch at the other. Aka an atlatl in central America, woomera in Australia.
