Splanchnocranium

Portion of the cranium that forms the facial skeleton including the nasal, lacrimal, zygomatic, palatine, maxilla, mandible, vomer, and nasal conchae bones. These bones develop by both intramembranous ossification and endochondral ossification. These portions of the skull are derived from the primitive skeleton of the gill apparatus, i.e. the bony face. Aka viscerocranium.
