Subtelomere

Unique region of the genome located between the chromosome-specific sequence and the telomere that caps each chromosome end. Subtelomeres consist of patches of duplicated blocks of DNA that exhibit homology with similar regions on nonhomologous chromosomes. Subtelomeres are involved in ectopic recombination and play a central role in abnormal translocation.
