Survival Of The Fittest

Phrase coined by Herbert Spencer in 1864, and later adopted by Charles Darwin in the 6th edition of his Origin of Species. Idea that individuals better adapted to their environment are those most likely to reproduce. The idea was later co-opted by the supporters of social Darwinism to justify laissez-faire capitalism and colonial expansionism.
