Survivorship Curve

Graphical representation of life table data of survivorship which produces three different curves. Type I represents an organism in which offspring survival is high and mortality increases as individuals age; modern humans in developed nations fit this curve. Type II represents an organism in which death may occur at any stage of the life cycle. Type III represents an organism in which there is early mortality with few individuals reaching adulthood and reproductive age. Such an organism produces large numbers of progeny.
