Fibrous articulation between flat bones of the skull. There are three types of suture: a serrate suture is connected by interlocking teeth at the articulation; a lap suture is an articulation of bones that are beveled so they overlap and appear smooth; a plane suture is an articulation of two bones that simply abut against one another.
