Synovial Membrane

Vascular lining of loose connective tissue that covers the surfaces contained within an articular capsule except that portion covered by articular cartilage. This membrane has specialized cells that secrete a thick lubricating synovial fluid. It also takes up excess fluid, stores adipose tissue, and forms movable fatty pads for use in the joint.
