Temporalis Muscle

Muscle of mastication. The temporalis originates from the temporal lines of the temporal bone and temporal fossa; it inserts into the coronoid process and anterior mandibular ramus. Its action is to elevate the mandible. This muscle is particularly large and well developed in the genus Paranthropus and is associated with a sagittal crest in this taxon.
