Unilinear Evolution

Theory of cultural evolution which asserts that the whole of human history can be understood as a sequence of evolutionary stages through which all human cultures have passed or will pass during their cultural development; contradicts the basic biocultural evolutionary perspective because it is teleological; sometimes termed unilineal evolution.

Cf. multilinear evolution.
