Graph, similar to a scatterplot, in which genetic distance is on the Y axis, and geographic distance is on the X axis. This method permits comparison among regions. Europeans, for example, tend to be more similar over broad geographic regions (mean genetic distance 0.007), whereas other populations tend, in the following rank order, to show increased genetic distance for the same spatial unit (i.e. 1000 miles): Asia (0.009), Africa (0.014), New Guinea (0.023), Australia (0.027), and America (0.040).
